Pearls are always threaded on silk as this is kindest to the drill holes inside. They can be knotted individually for security or, for smaller pearls, left plain to create a smooth line.
The silk does naturally stretch and discolour over time with wear but once rethreaded the pearls look refreshed and clean.
The fantastic thing about pearls is that they can easily be remodelled, for instance a necklace into a double row bracelet, simply by arranging a fitting with our Pearl Specialist. This also applies to multi-row pearl chokers which may not sit correctly and require a fitting to ensure they are the exact shape for each customer.
Bradleys also have the expertise to restore antiques such as Victorian seed pearl pieces, Georgian swag necklaces and hair-set mourning brooches as our specialist has extensive experience in this field.
Other precious stones can also be carefully rethreaded on coloured silk to enhance the appearance of amber, lapis lazuli and jade.
